What is TRX?
TRX is a suspension training accessory made of a resistant nylon strap with adjustable height through buckcles and which has an attachment point in one extreme and handles for the hands and support for the feet in the other.
Lately, TRX has become in an indispensable element in the workout routines of many people, due to the fact that it allows the execution of functional physical exercise. Moreover, thanks to its lightness, it can be easily carried anywhere or train comfortably in your own home.
The TRX system was created by a marine from the US Navy, Randy Hetrick, so that their troops could carry out physical exercise in reduced spaces in order to stay fit when they are on missions. At the beginning they used the parachutes belt that was sewn by hand with tools to repair rubber bottles.
After creating TRX, Hetrick and the rest of the members of the navy created a series of exercises in which they used their own body weight, what we now call suspension training. This training uses the own body, through gravity and its own weight, in order to increase strength, resistance, and balance.
What are the benefits of TRX suspension training?
TRX suspension training provides several advantages in regard to conventional strength workouts.
Each exercise from suspension training develops functional strength as well as flexibility, balance, and the stability of the central part of the body (also called core), as it is demanded from any other physical activity.
The key element of this training is the fact that we work with our own body weight and against gravity, which demands constant re-balance. This is why, apart from the exercise itself, the lumbo-pelvic area is always active, which is key in the stability of the human in order to do any kind of movement, facilitating the control, position, and balance of the body in any task.
It allows to work strength, endurance, coordination, flexibility, power, and stability, which strengthens the abdomen and specifically, the back, shoulders, chest, hips, and legs.
Another advantage of this training system is that it cannot only be used by athletes, since it can be adapted to all levels, there is no need to be in a perfect shape to do it.
TRX exercises can be done regardless of the age, sex, and physical condition of the person.
In fact, this system has been used by personal trainers, health programs for old people, physiotherapy, sports medicine centres, or chiropractors for rehabilitation purposes.
