- Who can benefit from Citrulline Malate?
Citrulline malate by HSNraw is a combination of the amino-acid citrulline together with the malate salt. It acts together with arginine and ornithine in the urea cycle, helping our body to excrete metabolic waste products. One of the main sources of citrulline is watermelon, but its intake would be impossible to supply an ergogenic support through this food, or if what you wish to make a more intense use of the active principle.
Citrulline can be combined with other supplements, commonly used in the 'peri-workout', such as BCAAs and Arginine, in order to achieve a synergistic effect, in terms of improved physical performance, muscle recovery and increased blood flow and oxygenation.
Citrulline has a powerful effect to signal the activation of the secretion of nitric oxide. Similarly it intervenes in important physiological processes. One of them is related to the fact that it is a component of the urea cycle which helps to eliminate ammonia and other toxins in blood. Nitrogen metabolites are accumulated through the digestion, absorption and metabolism of proteins, for this reason the consumption of Citrulline can be useful for protein-rich diets. Citrulline works with citric acid, aspartic acid and magnesium to improve the elimination of nitrogen metabolites.
Citrulline malate has a special role in high-performance sports due to its ability to improve certain physical aspects of the athlete during both aerobic and anaerobic activities, as well as high intensity activities.
At the same time, citrulline supplementation increases the presence of the ornithine and arginine amino acids in the blood plasma.
When we take the L-Arginine amino acid, there is a peak in the blood plasma. On the other hand, when we consume Citrulline Malate, it has to be transformed into arginine in the kidneys. In this case, we will achieve high plasma levels of arginine for a longer period of time by combining both products. This means that we will be able to use this fact and apply it to our pre-workout, to improve our athletic capacity, improving the oxygenation and transport of nutrients toward the muscle fibres.
- Supporting the cardiovascular health through by releasing and producing nitric oxide, which improves the blood flow
- Reducing the blood pressure and encouraging an optimal state of the immune system
- Shortening the post-workout recovery
- Contributing to the detoxification of the liver and the excretion of ammonia
- Improving the sexual relations
Citrulline malate supplementation can improve the physical anaerobic performance and reduces Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS), as well as promoting health, such as improving insulin sensitivity.
Increasing the production of Nitric Oxide (NO). One of the most important benefits of Citrulline malate is the stimulation of nitric oxide secretion, increasing the transport of nutrients through the blood vessels to the muscle cells. Thanks to this feature, it regulates the blood flow and increases the supply of oxygen. The absorption of glucose is also improved.
It also lowers the blood acidosis caused by submaximal anaerobic efforts, which produces lactate in the process, and obtaining ammonia and nitrogen toxic metabolites as metabolic waste products. This helps to maintain cellular health from the damage of oxidative stress. In this sense, sportspeople and athletes who have a high volume and intensity of training would benefit from including Citrulline Malate in their diet as a supplement, not only as an aid to improve their performance but also to look after their health.
Citrulline Malate helps to recharge the energy that is used by our muscles in high intensity and short efforts. Here, phosphocreatine gets involved, which needs time to achieve regeneration once the postexertional deposits are emptied. Citrulline supports the Krebs cycle to produce ATP. Thus, it maintains a steady supply of ATP, which will enhance the athletic performance.
The main benefits of citrulline malate are:
- Improve the athletic capacity
- Promoting a fast elimination of toxins produced during physical exercise
- Accelerate the intra-workout recovery processes
Those who will possibly benefit from these properties are athletes and sportspeople within a framework of competition or it can support training throughout the season.
Some of the sports disciplines that we can include are: Athletics, Powerlifting, Weightlifting, CrossFit, Martial Arts, Rugby, Triathlon, ...
On the other hand, since citrulline malate increases the blood flow and improves the functioning of the cardiovascular system, it can be a great help for those people who suffer from related pathologies, such as erectile dysfunction, high blood pressure, high triglyceride levels...

I have been able to prolong my workouts and to complete them without feeling excessively tired, great product.
It really helps with the recovery phase and to delay fatigue during training.
I wanted to add a supplement for my diet and this one really helped specially with the recovery phase.
