Phospha Muscle of MuscleTech is an innovative food supplement consisting of phosphatidic acid or PA. This ingredient is becoming very popular in the field of sports nutrition as it promotes muscle gain.
According to a recent study carried out by the University of Tampa, athletes taking phosphatidic acid in amounts of 750 mg for 8 weeks, doubled muscle gains in those athletes not taking it. The subjects gained 5.3 pounds of lean mass while the other group, who did not take this ingredient, gained only 2.6 pounds. In the same study, subjects increased their strength in the leg press by 60% more than in the placebo group.
During an endurance training, the body naturally releases limited quantities of phosphatidic acid, which binds to mTOR, activating the signaling pathway for muscle building. Phosphatidic acid supplementation promotes protein synthesis through two ways: Directly, by introducing into the muscle cell and binding to mTOR. Indirectly, through conversion to lyso-phosphatidic acid and joining the muscle cell membrane, which increases the amount of intracellular phosphatidic acid, and in turn activates mTOR.
Phosphatidic acid is a phospholipid with two fatty acids and a phosphate group, and it has to be unsaturated to activate the mTOR. If fatty acids are saturated (such as PA found in eggs), the PA just incorporates into the cell membrane. Bioavailability of phosphatidic acid is increased significantly 30 minutes after the intake and remains up for 7 hours.
