Citrulline 500 by Nutrytec is a food supplement based on citrulline malate, a combination of the non-essential amino acid citrulline, together with an acid salt, malate. Citrulline malate is found naturally in foods such as water melon, melon and other foods rich in protein. Citrulline is one of the three amino acids that participate in the Urea cycle, together with arginine and ornithine.
The urea cycle is a process that takes place in the liver, and that the organism performs to excrete waste products, turning excess nitrogen into urea, to be eliminated. By means of this excretion, the ammonia and toxic metabolites of nitrogen are eliminated. Ammonia is very toxic for the cells and high levels can be harmful in even healthy, well-trained athletes. A high level of ammonia can lead to extreme fatigue. In the same way, the creation of glycogen can be reduced, and the energy cycle inhibited.
Citrulline malate plays an important role in the process of muscle acidosis that takes place due to high intensity exertion, boosting the recycling of lactic and pyruvate acid. Citrulline also has a vasodilator effect and increases the protection of nitric oxide. It also plays a part in Krebs cycle, which is the method by which the body obtains energy from glucides and fatty acids, obtaining the ATP.
